Smoking

SMOKING AND BLOOD PRESSURE

Does smoking cause high blood pressure. Does smoking contribute to high blood pressure. I was told by my Doctor that smoking does affect blood pressure. Do I believe my Doctor and is smoking really anything to do with high blood pressure.

I must admit I don’t have a great deal of faith in any Doctors these days. Now don’t get me wrong there are probably many Doctors out there in this world today that are doing great things and are very caring with their patients and actually care about their patients health. But from my own experience I tend to have a low opinion of alot of Doctors as their main concern seems to be to just dish out as many drugs as possible, they think about money more than patients health.

Anyway ignore me lets get on with smoking and the effects on our blood pressure. We all know or have been told or read somewhere that smoking is connected with heart disease and other vascular problems. But does smoking actually increase your blood pressure. Well it is said to increase our blood pressure by a couple of points as we smoke the cigarette but there is no real proof that regular smoking can cause hypertension. So smoking does not directly give you high blood pressure but it does cause damage to your arteries so is connected to problems with the cardiovascular system.

I think if you have high blood pressure then you are definately going to help yourself by giving up smoking or at the very least cut down on your smoking as I did, I think we can all accept that smoking is not good for our health. But if like me you enjoy it and don’t want to give up then you do need to do other things to bring down your high blood pressure if you have it and as you smoke it would be a good idea to have your BP checked regular.
