RUN FOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE
So where do we start with running to get fit and help lower our blood pressure. If you have decided that you will run for your chosen exercise to conquer your high blood pressure then read on.
We know that we have to do some form of exercise on a regular basis to keep our bodies fit and healthy. This combined with a healthy diet will contribute to controlling our blood pressure. So lets talk about running.
Just a quick sentence to slip in before we start. It is a good idea to have a check up with your Doctor to make sure that you are OK to start a running program. Explain to your Doctor the plans you have for running to keep fit, I am pretty sure he will not try to put you off the idea and he will make all the necessary checks so you are good to go.
The good thing about running is that it will not cost you a fortune to do, as long as you have some comfortable clothes then the only money you will spend is on a good quality pair of running shoes. Try not to skimp on this bit as you need running shoes that will provide support as well as comfort. Cheap running shoes are a force economy, so buy quality.
The next thing you need to do is set out a schedule for your running, every other day is a good starting point as you will need rest days as well, then when you get more experienced you can customise your weekly routine to suit you. What part of the day will be your choice as well, mornings, midday or evenings which ever suits you. But the most important thing is to schedule it into your weekly activities.
If you are a completely new to exercise then you need to start off very slowly may be with your first week being a brisk walk, then your second week a slow jog and build up from there. If you go hell for leather from the off set then you probably won’t manage to get out of bed the following day because your muscles will be to painful and then you may be put off your new exercise program. So start off gentle and build up from there.
Re hydrate your body, when running you will lose fluid through sweating so you will need to drink more water than normal. Always spend 10 minutes before you start running to warm up with some stretching exercises, this will help to avoid muscles tightness and injury.
So you can now go for it, good luck and enjoy.
