Olives
Those little bitter sweet fruits you hate to love. That is how it was for me any way, whenever I tried an olive at a party or restaurant I would decide I didn’t like them (that bitter taste), but some how I wanted to try another, I mean if you don’t like something, you don’t like it, simple.
But with Olives I wanted more, eventually I really got the taste for them and I love them now, so I don’t wait for parties any more I eat them regularly, they are great.
I thought I would find out whether they are good for us or not, whether they can benefit our health and most importantly whether they are good for helping with high blood pressure, after all that is why we are here, Right! I do try to check out any New Foods that I start to eat just to make sure that they are not bad for blood pressure.
This is what I found out, Olives are good for our health. This is just a basics in the world of Olives, they are a great source of fiber and rich in Vitamin E, Iron and Copper and although they have a name for containing fat, it’s good fat. Monounsaturated fat, long word I know, but these fats are good for us, so no problem on that front. This M fat combined with vitamin E can help with inflammation. Now I could go into free radicals here and polyphenols and flavonoids, but I won’t as I’m sure you don’t want a lesson on a complex subject like that.
The point is that Olives are good for our health and I guess they are a fruit and fruit is good for us, so will I ever get on to the relationship between olives and high blood pressure.
I found a few snippets of information saying that olives are not good for high blood pressure because of their Salt Content, but I ignored them as it is known that olive oil with all its antioxidant properties is good for blood pressure and the fact that olive oil is made from the crushing of olives has got to mean that they are good for blood pressure or at the very least not bad for it.
This was really a little research for myself as olives are my new edible friend, but I thought it was worth sharing, so drum roll….
The verdict in my opinion is that olives are great, so eat them up and enjoy.
