EXERCISE TIPS
We know that exercise is good for us and that it can help bring down blood pressure over a period of time. What kind of exercise should we be doing to help control our blood pressure and how often must we do these exercises.
Once you have been checked out by your Doctor and you know that you are OK to start an exercise program then all you have to do is start.
The main thing with exercise is not to let it become a chore, try and make it part of your lifestyle. Do forms of exercise that you enjoy. There are many to choose from and probably the most popular of all is walking. Try and walk as often as possible, think about it before you jump in the car, could you walk instead. Other forms of exercise that are enjoyable are running, cycling, swimming and dancing. These are all great forms of exercise that are fun and can be done with your family or friends.
There are also aerobics, Pilate’s or weight training the choice is yours and all will help towards lowering your blood pressure. The other benefits are that you will be toning your muscles and controlling your weight. So you won’t only feel healthier but will look great as well.
The amount of times you exercise is down to the type of exercise you decide to do, if you have decided that you are going to walk as your exercise then a brisk 30 minute walk 5-6 times a week will benefit. If you are going all out and are starting a weight training program with some cardio exercise like running or cycling then probably every other day would be OK because as your muscles will be worked harder, they will need time between workouts to rest and repair themselves.
What ever type of exercise you decide on remember to try and make it part of your lifestyle and make it fun too, then you are more likely to keep it up and not give up after a few weeks.
