COFFEE AND BLOOD PRESSURE

So what about coffee in realtion to blood pressure. I was told that caffeine in coffee was a contributing factor to me having high blood pressure. Tea was not as bad as coffee as it didn’t contain as much caffeine. Is this true.

The honest answer to this is I don’t really know and is there anyone that does know for sure. My Doctor told me that coffee was bad for my blood pressure but the more I researched this the less that it seemed to be true. There have been many tests and experiments done by many scientific organizations over the years about caffeine and its relation to high blood pressure and there is no real concrete proof that it affects blood pressure at all.

Does coffee contain more caffeine than tea ? No it doesn’t. That is my finding from researching this question. When I say it doesn’t what I mean is it doesn’t initially. Let me explain, tea in its natural state contains more caffeine than coffee in its natural state. What this means is that a tea leaf contains more caffeine than a coffee bean, but this swaps around when we make our tea or coffee. So a cup of coffee will contain more caffeine than a cup of tea made in the same size cup.

So what do I take from this, well I think if coffee was a contributing factor in my high blood pressure then it was due to the quantity of coffee I was drinking, anything in excess is not a good thing. If my coffee consumption was around 4 cups a day then I think it would not have a bearing on my blood pressure.

That said I have got used to only drinking at most 1 cup per day and my now normal drink is green tea which is said to be a healthy drink that contains lots of anti-oxidents. But green tea does contain caffeine.

So if you are an excessive coffee drinker like I was then may be it is time that you cut down a bit. I don’t think there is any real reason to stop drinking coffee all together though.
