Check Up – Blood Pressure Test

Time to get my blood pressure checked, it’s been several months since I have had my blood pressure checked. So I made an appointment with the nurse at my Doctors office for 30th July which was yesterday. So yesterday at 2.p.m I would get my Blood pressure checked and to my total shock I spent the whole day up to that point feeling very anxious about it, I say shock because I don’t really get uptight or anxious about anything. I have always been pretty laid back, so this anxiety was a first for me. I could actually feel my pulse in several places in my body, it was like my heart was going to burst out of my chest (OK that might be a slight exaggeration).

All I could think of was that this alien anxiety was going to have an effect on my blood pressure level, surely it was going to push my level up, which seemed to make it worse. By the time 1.45.p.m arrived and I made my way to the Doctors office I still had not calmed down and as I sat there in the chair and the nurse wrapped the cuff around my right arm, I just thought this is going to be sky high.

Total shock for the second time in a day, that’s fine I am more than happy with that keep up the good work were the words that came from the nurses mouth. I was gobsmacked and when I asked her what the reading was she said (drum roll please) 139/87. The pulsating in my body just stopped, I couldn’t believe it.

I had expected it to stay low because of the changes I had made to my lifestyle and the exercise I was doing and the breathing techniques and meditation I had learnt. But after the anxiety leading up to my check up, I was convinced it would show a high reading. The positive thing about this is also that the anxiety must have made my blood pressure higher than it would now normally be and yet it was still the lowest its been since I found out it was high back in September 2008.

So I am really pleased with myself and intend to carry on with all the good work I have done for my body.
