Blood Pressure Monitor

OMRON BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR

What is a Blood Pressure Monitor and how does it work. This small piece of equipment will not help bring your blood pressure down or maintain it, but it will measure it. Do I need one ?

No you don’t need one, I have got one and the reason why I decided to get one was that even though I didn’t feel anxious when I went to the Doctors office to get my blood pressure checked, I wondered if I was, may be  just a bit and that this would put my BP up to a higher level.

I spoke to the nurse about this and she said that most people do get a little anxious when visiting the Doctors office even if they don’t feel they are. It is called White Coat Syndrome or as we are talking about high bp here then may be White Coat Hypertension. After my third regular visit for my BP check of which I have to say my blood pressure was coming down and after discussing it with the nurse I decided to invest in my own BP monitor and test my Blood Pressure at home to see if it was less than at the Doctors office.

Well it was a different reading to the doctors but not by a lot only a couple less, so by buying my own monitor it didn’t instantly drop my blood pressure. At least I could keep a check on my own BP level though to make sure it was going downwards and not upwards. When I went for my fourth BP check with the nurse I took my monitor along for her to checkout and to make sure I was doing things right.

I think that if you decide to get your own monitor then the most important thing to remember is not to go for a cheap nasty one that probably won’t last and also may not be very accurate. I tested mine against the nurses one and there was only one point the difference, which is absolutely fine. I Had actually got the same make as well although I think the nurses one was probably a bit more expensive than mine.

You can spend several hundred dollars on a BP monitor if you like but I don’t think there is any need as it won’t get the same amount of use as the one in your Doctors office. So here is the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor that I have, it is a well known good quality make and not to expensive either and very easy to use. So take a look and see what you think.
